Surrounded by water on three sides, the weather in San Francisco always feels quite Mediterranean and moderate, although if there is fog around, the temperatures tend to drop and it can feel a little chilly, even in the summer.

San Francisco is generally a very sunny city and summer is the most popular time of the year to visit the city. Temperatures are at their highest in September and October when it can be quite hot, but throughout most of the year, the climate here feels quite spring-like.


Although the weather is generally mild, be prepared for some wet days in December, January, February and March, when the city receives it highest rainfall. From June through to September, the summer sun usually burns through any mist at around 10:00 and shines down well into the afternoon, when it often disappears into a gray mist. Sometimes in San Francisco it is quite possible for an area to be basking in rich sunshine, while another nearby neighborhood is filled with fog. When visiting, it is always advisable to bring a coat and an umbrella, but whatever the weather, there is always plenty to see and do in the city.
